The proposal to close Fairview Fire Station #2 and transfer our emergency services to Garner has been presented as a “cost saving measure”. However, while Fairview has been beefing up their volunteer force, I have heard from multiple sources that Garner is cutting back on their volunteers, and not replacing them when they resign.
To check on that claim, I went to the Garner Fire-Rescue volunteering page to see what it says. As of July 25 it says “We are currently not accepting volunteer applications.” This is in contrast to the recent growth in Fairview volunteers. I hope to blog more on that subject soon.
Shutting down Fairview Fire Station #2 will result in fewer volunteers and higher costs. It is not a justified move.
